Soft Cell’s pioneering 1981 cover of the Northern Soul classic, “Tainted Love,” is the inspiration for this awesome 80s dance party. Building on a solid foundation of New Wave, we’ll dig deeper into the catalog of massive hits and overlooked misses from the late 70s through the early 90s – pivotal years in musical history that blurred the lines between Analog and Digital, Disco and Synthpop, Funk and Hip-Hop. A time when Alternative was called Post-Punk, Indie actually meant independent, and Throbbing Gristle’s “Hot on the Heels of Love” surely could have been alongside Blondie’s “Heart of Glass” on the charts…with today’s perspective. Other passions include CBGB-era New York, Batcave-era London – Punk Rock, Glam Rock, Kraut Rock, Girl Rock, Dad Rock, Rockabilly, Ska, Machine Soul, Blue-Eyed Soul, Darkwave, Coldwave – plus some guilty pleasures in the (strictly) Old-School Rap department.

a dance party where everyone, no matter their tastes, feels satisfied.

We found DJ Jane of Stylus Entertainment via Offbeat Bride and were immediately drawn to the fact that she had worked with couples with more alternative music tastes, who weren’t huge fans of being in the spotlight, of grand entrances and air horns. We also liked the fact that she was a DJ outside of the wedding scene, being the host of the tainted love 80s dance party at the Bell House in Brooklyn. We have a lot of family who love 80s music, so this was a huge plus. From the very beginning, Jane was a consummate professional: prompt and responsive in communication, very organized, and perhaps most unique, she was interested in getting to know us as a couple, in our musical tastes, in our reasoning behind certain decisions, such as having a secular ceremony, in what our guests were like. Prior to our wedding, we provided a detailed spreadsheet of song requests from our guests, which included Bollywood tunes, Italian folk music, top 40 tunes, and music requests from ourselves that included indie rock, electronic pop, classic disco. Jane drew from this list for both dinner and the actual dancing, and also played music, inspired by our suggestions, that fit in so well with the sound we and our guests were looking for. We really appreciated her ability to handle transitions and the mood of the crowd. Music throughout our reception transitioned smoothly from one track to another, dinner music allowed for conversation to happen comfortably, music during the dancing periods featured a good mix of upbeat with more mellow. We really appreciated the absence of unnecessary banter and forced hyping of the crowd. Jane let the music and the flow of one track into the next speak for itself, and struck a great balance between responding to the mood of the crowd, but also gently activating them with more energizing tunes. Afterwards, Jane created a playlist for us of the entire tracklist of our wedding! Highly recommend DJ Jane if you want more than a generic pop sound to your wedding, if you want the feel of a dance party where everyone, no matter their tastes, feels satisfied. ” —Wedding Wire and The Knot

Amazing Job!
We loved Stylus! All of our guests were complementing the playlist for the wedding. Jane did such a great job curating the HUGE list of song we sent her. Such a pleasure to work with and really listened to us as clients. The detail in the contract showed how much she really cared about every detail- no matter how small.” —Wedding Wire

“DJ Stylus did such a great job. They were easy to communicate with. Jane Elizabeth was so detail oriented- it was really touching the detail she put in our contract. It really showed that she listened to us and out personal story. Our guests complemented the playlist and some even wanted it for their weddings. Jane did a great job curating our giant playlist of the songs we loved. So happy with everything!” —The Knot

“Jane DJ’d our wedding at the Queens County Farm Museum back in May, and having her do so was easily one of the best decisions we made! Jane is extremely professional and easy to work with, has fantastic and diverse taste in music, and created an amazing set that kept us and our guests dancing the entire night. Jane worked closely with us when we were picking our must-plays, and on the night of, did a fantastic job interspersing them with songs that fit in with the tone perfectly, and also making sure that the music we wanted to hear came before any guest requests, and that anything that was requested was something we wanted to hear too. We got more compliments on the music than any other element of our wedding, and we find ourselves listening to the playlist regularly (which Jane sent our way after the event!). Jane is a real expert, and I can’t recommend her highly enough! Thanks Jane!” —The Knot

“My partner and I got married this past August and Jane Elizabeth of Stylus DJ Entertainment was our DJ. Everyone loved Jane! Everyone thought the music was amazing. My partner and I had been looking for a female DJ for our wedding and the second we saw Jane’s website we knew she would be the perfect fit. She assured us that we could have all the music we liked and still make sure everyone was happy. She paid special attention to the demographics of our guest list and the songs/artists we most wanted to hear. It was super helpful to hear the playlists of previous events that Jane had done from her Spotify. Most importantly, it felt like Jane really understood who we are and the musical vibe we wanted for our wedding. We would definitely recommend Stylus DJ Entertainment and will definitely be going to all of Jane’s New York City events! *Queer friendly vendor*” —Wedding Wire and The Knot

“Stylus came recommended through my sister in law. My wife and I couldn’t have been happier working with Jane. She made the process smooth and easy. Everything we asked for she was able to accommodate without a problem. Almost all of our guests complimented us on the music and for that we owe Jane a big THANK YOU!” —Wedding Wire and The Knot
